Dramatic Kenyan mountain landscape with dramatic cloud cover and peaks

About Faru Outdoors

We started as a group of Nairobi friends who kept asking the same question: "Why is it so hard to find a good hike?" Faru is our answer.

Born on the Ngong Hills

In 2019, a group of seven friends completed a full traverse of the Ngong Hills with nothing but a hand-drawn map and a borrowed tent. They got lost twice, ran out of water once, and had the best weekend of their lives.

That experience revealed a gap: Kenya has some of the most breathtaking wilderness on the planet, but most people — including Kenyans — have no easy way to access it safely. No vetted guides, no curated trips, no community.

Faru Outdoors was founded to close that gap. Today we run 50+ trails across 12 regions, have guided over 5,000 hikers, and host monthly events that keep the community moving.

Our Values

Rooted in Kenya

We are proudly Kenyan. Every trail we run, every camp we set — it's a love letter to this land and its people.

Safety First

Our guides are certified, our gear is top-tier, and our protocols are non-negotiable. You focus on the views; we handle the rest.

Community Driven

Faru is not a booking site — it is a movement. We build friendships on the trail that last long after the hike is done.

Expert Guided

All our guides hold professional certifications and carry wilderness first aid qualifications. No exceptions.

Off the Beaten Path

We go beyond the tourist routes to hidden ridges, secret valleys and camps that most people never find on a map.

Responsible Travel

Leave no trace. We partner with local communities, hire local guides, and contribute to trail conservation funds.
